Aurora Technologies developed the
software interface for the application
generators (DLL driver files). We defined
the card structure and its security
schemes. Comtec developed the GUI
software for the use of the taxi company
(in a Windows environment). The
software manages and administers card
issuing, transaction collection and
processing and distribution of the
revenues between the drivers of the Taxi
firm. Monitex company distributes
the entire system to taxi companies in
Israel. Today, the taxi card systems are
applied by several well organized taxi
companies in Israel.
Two
distinct Taxi Card schemes are in
operation. The first is a simple
system, consisting of a single type of
customer card for fares. The second
scheme includes three types of cards: a
customer card, a monthly (pass) card and
a driver card used by the taxi meter.
Customer cards are sold in several
denominations, including 5, 10, 20, 30,
40 and 50 units. The Taxi card scheme was
implemented on two types of cards: a
simple T2G card (often used for telecards/phonecards)
and a memory protected card which is
faster and more reliable for this
application.
There are
many advantages to the taxi card system.
One is that it allows taxi companies to
compete with public bus companies that
offer their passengers a monthly pass
card or a multi-ride ticket at a reduced
price. Another advantage is that the
system enables the taxi company to manage
its revenues better.
Our thanks
to Sam Gerbi from Monitax for the
information and the card pictures.
